South Mountain's D'Souza named NJCAA Male Athlete of the Year

Charlotte, N.C. – South Mountain golf star Leon D'Souza has been named NJCAA Male Athlete of the Year.

The sophomore from Clonlara H.S. in Michigan, won his second consecutive NJCAA Division II national championship in May and led the Cougars to the team title as well. He was the first to win back-to-back titles since 1993.

In addition to his efforts on the course he excelled in the classroom. He posted a 3.66 GPA and graduated with an Associates Degree in Business in just three semesters. That earned him NJCAA All-Academic recognition.

He plans to continue his career at Southern California.

D'Souza is the first South Mountain student-athlete ever to win the David Rowlands Award as well as the first NJCAA men's golfer to be so honored.
