ACCAC has banner year in NJCAA academic awards

  It was a banner year for the ACCAC in the annual NJCAA academic awards announced recently.

  Among individuals recognized the conference accounted for 462 of the 9,555 athletes singled out  nationwide. On the team list the league had 77 of the 1,026 listed.

  Individuals are categorized into three teams beginning with first team which includes those with perfect 4.0 GPAs. The ACCAC had 152 of those. Second team honors those with GPAs between 3.80-3,99 and third team includes those with 3.60-3.79GPA. The conference had 118 on the second team and 192 on third team.

  For complete teams to be honored they must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.00, or higher, for all team members.

  Teams with the highest GPA in the nation in their sport are recognized as Teams of the Year and Paradise Valley's men's outdoor track and field team earned that honor.

  The Pumas also led the ACCAC with 13 squads earning all-academic honors. Mesa was second with nine while Scottsdale and Chandler-Gilbert had seven each.
