Scottsdale jumps into early ACCAC volleyball lead

  Scottsdale has jumped into the early lead in ACCAC volleyball with a perfect, 4-0, conference mark as of Sept. 15.

  The Artichokes picked up two conference wins, blanking Mesa, 3-0, and then topping Eastern Arizona, 3-2, with Yamina Gonzalez leading the way with 20 kills. SCC is 6-4 overall.

  Three other teams have not lost in conference play but have played fewer matches.

  Glendale is 2-0 and 13-1 in all matches. The Gauchos beat Chandler-Gilbert, 3-0, to begin the week and then won four matches without a loss against California schools. They knocked off Mt. San Jacinto and San Diego Mesa in matches played at Riverside CC and then traveled to Grossmont CC where they stopped Citrus CC and host Grossmont.

  Yavapai won its only match of the week over Pima, 3-0, as Kennedy Wright led with 15 kills. That was the ACCAC opener for the Roughriders who sport a 9-2 overall mark.

  Arizona Western won its conference opener, 3-2, over Eastern Arizona with Marissa Garciglia Banuelos contributing 13 kills. The Matadors then split six matches in Las Vegas.
