Jerry Carillo Inducted into NJCAA Men’s Basketball Coaches Association HOF

Charlotte, NC - Jerry Carillo was inducted into the NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Carillo just wrapped up his 29th season as the head men's basketball coach at Cochise College. He is one of four honorees in the Class of 2023.

Over the past 28 years, Cochise has amassed 627 wins under Carrillo's leadership, which breaks the record for most wins under one head coach at Cochise College.

Carillo has lead the Apaches to 25 consecutive Region 1 playoff appearances, including the Region 1 Championship in 2000, 2001, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2021, and 2022. His 1999-00, 2009-10, and 2011-12 squads won the ACCAC Conference titles outright.

His 2000-01 and 2015-16 squads were co-champions of the ACCAC. His 2019-2023 squads won 5 straight Conference Championships. 

Carrillo was named the ACCAC/Region 1 Coach of the Year in 2005-06. He was chosen by the NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association to coach the National JUCO team in 2004.

Carillo was selected as the floor coach by USA Basketball for the 2011 USA Men's U19 team.

Carrillo has sent well over 100 student-athletes to four-year universities since being at Cochise. Prior to Cochise, he was the assistant coach at Cal-State Northridge University for two years, the assistant coach at Jamestown Community College for one season, and the head boy's basketball coach at Buena High School for three years. 

Jerry Carrillo attended the University of Arizona where he received his B.S. in Physical Education and went on to acquire his M.S. in Kinesiology at Cal-State University-Northridge.
