Region I Soccer playoffs kick off Tuesday

DI Men’s Soccer

Final: #1 Arizona Western vs #2 Yavapai – Oct. 28 7:00 pm @ Arizona Western

Arizona Western finished the regular season undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the nation. The Matadors will host the Region I title game for the third consecutive season. Yavapai finished the regular season 8-5 and beat out Eastern Arizona for the second spot among DI teams in the ACCAC. Arizona Western won the lone meeting between the two teams this season, beating the Roughriders 1-0 in Prescott back on October 3.

DI Women's Soccer

Final: #1 Arizona Western vs #2 Eastern Arizona – Oct. 28 4:30 pm @ Arizona Western

In their first season of competition, the Gila Monsters find themselves playing for a Region I title, meeting the three-time defending Region I champions Arizona Western. The No. 10 ranked Lady Matadors won 13 games this season, finishing the year 13-1 and winning their final 12 games. Eastern Arizona won 11 games in their first season, posting an 11-3-3 record and have won back-to-back games. Arizona Western won the lone meeting between the two teams this season, beating the Gila Monsters 6-0 back on September 16 in Yuma.

DII Men’s Soccer

Semi-Final: #1 Pima vs #4 Glendale – Oct. 25 6:00 pm @ Pima

Pima finished as the top team in DII in Region I and will host the Gauchos in the first semi-final on Wednesday night. The Aztecs won 12 games this season and went 12-2 and finished the season winning their last two games, outscoring opponents 7-1. Glendale was able to secure a playoff birth by winning five of its final six games to finish the season 9-4-2. Pima won the only meeting between the two teams back on September 16, 4-0 in Tucson.

Semi-Final: #2 Phoenix vs #3 Mesa – Oct. 25 6:00 pm @ Phoenix

Phoenix won 10 games this season, going 10-1-2, and won its final two games and have not allowed a goal in four of their last five games. The Bears are currently ranked fourth in the nation. Mesa won seven games this season, ending the regular season with a 7-2-5 record, and secured the No. 3 seed with a 3-2 win over South Mountain on Saturday. The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw in their lone meeting this season all the way back on September 16.

DII Women’s Soccer

Semi-Final: #1 Phoenix vs #4 Chandler-Gilbert – Oct. 24 6:00 pm – Phoenix

Phoenix ended the season ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA DII Women’s Soccer poll and as the top team among DII teams in the ACCAC. The Bears went 12-1-2 and were unbeaten in their final six games of the season (5-0-1). The Bears will host Chandler-Gilbert who went 4-8-1 and are 3-2 in their five games. Phoenix beat the Coyotes 6-0 back on September 12.

Semi-Final: #2 Scottsdale vs #3 Pima – Oct. 24 2:00 pm @ Scottsdale

The only other nationally ranked team in DII from the ACCAC, Scottsdale, plays host to Pima in the second semi-final. The Fighting Artichokes won 11 games this season and went 11-4-2 this season and are ranked No. 12 in the latest poll. Pima ended the season with seven wins and went 7-6-2 and is coming off a regular season-ending win over South Mountain 7-0. Scottsdale beat Pima 2-1 on August 29 before the two teams fought to a 2-2 draw back on September 12.
