ACCAC wallops non-conference foes

With the ACCAC season set to open Tuesday the conference baseball teams got their bats limbered up by scoring at least ten runs in 13 of 21 games against non-conference competition while winning 15 of the contests.

Central Arizona continued its unbeaten ways with four wins over Salt Lake. The margins ranged from two 11-1 blowouts to a 4-3 squeaker in 10 innings and a 4-2 victory. Two of the four games were played at Tempe Diablo Stadium when an out-of-control sprinkler system drench the CAC field.

Meanwhile, Arizona Western remained unbeaten at 6-0 after three lop-sided wins over Northeastern, 11-0, 18-5 and 16-5. The Matadors pounded out 42 hits in just 19 innings and hit four home runs.

Pima got its season going after three conciliations and too three of four from pre-season No. 20 Southern Nevada. The Aztecs dropped the first contest, 9-8, but then won by increasing margins, 13-12, 7-4 and 17-9.

Cochise dropped its first two of the season after winning four straight. The Apaches fell to New Mexico Military, 4-0 and 6-5.

ACCAC play begins Tuesday with a pair of doubleheaders. Mesa travels to Glendale and Yavapai visits GateWay. Both twin-bills begin at noon.
