Central Arizona has started a new winning streak in ACCAC baseball, while Pima saw its outstanding run come to an end.
CAC won four times last week, the first being a doubleheader sweep of its closest challenger, Pima, which had won 20 straight entering the twin bill. The Vaqueros had opened the season by capturing 31 consecutively.
Central put an end to the Aztecs streak with a 12-2 six-inning win in the opener, but had to score two in the bottom of the eighth to pull out the nightcap. In that first game CAC jumped to a 4-0 lead after three innings and then ended the contest with six in the sixth. Kiko Romero and Jake Jarvis had three hits each with Romero hitting two home runs and driving in three and Jarvis clubbing a round-tripper and accounting for four RBIs. Pima's Bailey Seeger homered. In game two, J.D. McLaughlin led with three hits and Dayton Dooney and Dusty Garcia each homered. J.J. Rollon hit one out for Pima.
Later in the week CAC took two from Glendale, 10-0 (6) and 12-2 (7). A six-run sixth inning broke open a close game in the first contest. McLaughlin paced the Vaqueros with two hits and two RBIs. Mat Olsen ran his record to 9-0 on the mound with a two-hitter. Game two saw Dooney and Zak Stewart gather two hits each and Romero drive in three.
Following the CAC pair, Pima split at Yavapai, winning 8-2 but dropping the nightcap 8-5. The first game saw Parker Schmidt collect two hits including a home run. Daniel Durazzo and Angel Ochoa also had two hits each. Noah Turley had three hits for YC. Turley had three more hits in the nightcap, including a pair of doubles. Durazo, Zavien Watson and Romero Balleteros reached twice for Pima.
South Mountain remains in the hunt with a 20-10 conference mark. The Cougars swept Cochise in a pair of tight ones, 2-1 and 4-3, but then dropped two at Arizona Western, 7-6 and 6-3.
