Pima Community College men’s basketball player Deion James (Empire HS) was selected the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week on Wednesday for his efforts during the Region I, Division II tournament.

James a sophomore forward, helped lead the Aztecs to their first Region I, Division II championship since 2010. The Aztecs beat Glendale Community College 119-111 in the semifinal round and upset No. 1 seeded Phoenix College 102-99 in last Saturday’s final.

James averaged 26 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.5 blocks.

The Aztecs will be the No. 8 seed for the NJCAA Division II national tournament in Danville, IL. They will play Waubansee Community College (IL) in the first game of the tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 21 at 9:00 a.m. (CDT);7:00 a.m. (MST).
