Conference men's basketball title up for grabs Tuesday

The ACCAC men's basketball championship will be decided Tuesday between Cochise and Eastern Arizona.

Those two are tied with 16-5 league marks with just one game to play.

Cochise (22-7) slipped into a tie with EAC when it fell at Glendale Saturday, 68-62.  That came after a 98-66 win over South Mountain earlier in the week. The Apaches will host Phoenix Tuesday.

The Gila Monsters (24-5), meanwhile, won at home twice, topping Tohono O'odham, 115-66, and Arizona Western, 68-46. They will visit Central Arizona Tuesday for their final game.

Mesa (17-12, 13-8) has locked up the #3 seed and Arizona Western (16-13, 10-11) will be #4.

In Division II, Scottsdale (23-5, 15-6) has an insurmountable lead for the top seed. Phoenix, Glendale and Pima are battling for positions 2-4.

PC (19-10, 13-8) took two last week, beating Central Arizona, 85-77, and Pima, 103-98. Three different Bears scored over 20 points: Lamar Mitchell (28), Treyvon McCray (23) and Shemar Wilson (21 with 15 rebounds). PC finishes at Cochise Tuesday.

Glendale (18-10, 13-8) took two last week. The Gauchos won a pair, topping Arizona Western, 75-71, and Cochise, 68-62. They will be travelling to meet Pima in the dramatic final game of the regular season Tuesday.

The Aztecs (18-11, 12-9) beat Chandler-Gilbert, but then lost at Phoenix, 103-98.

The Region I tournaments begin Saturday.
