Cochise and Arizona Western remained in first and second placed in ACCAC men's basketball after completion of play March 1-7.
CC actually won twice to run its record to 6-2, 6-1, beating Eastern Arizona twice, 80-69 on the road and 76-66 at home.
In the first game Stephen Byard, who has won the last two Player of the Week awards, scored 22 points and Patrick Samoura chipped in with 16 points and ten rebounds. EAC had four in double figures paced by Ty Rankin with 21 and Davion Bailey with 16.
In the game played in Douglas, AZ, the Apaches had five players score in double figures, led by Byard and Jalun Trent with 14 each. The Gila Monsters had two with 17 points apiece, Rankin and Bailey.
Arizona Western (9-2, 7-2) stayed right with Cochise and has played two more games than CC.
AZW went on the road and topped Central Arizona, 71-57. Marquis Hargrove came off the bench to lead a balanced attack for the Matadors with 11 points. Mojus Mojus added ten points.
