Arizona Western, Cochise, tied atop ACCAC men's basketball standings

Heading into the final week of the regular season, Arizona Western and Cochise are tied for the top spot in ACCAC men's basketball each with 7-2 conference records.

Their planned showdown in Douglas, AZ, Saturday was cancelled as was a game planned for Yuma, AZ, this coming Friday.

Cochise split two games last week to draw into the tie.

The Apaches first defeated Eastern Arizona, 83-74, as three players came off the bench to combine for 47 points. Kalep Crane led the way with 18 points, going 7-11 from the floor. Jonathan Garcia added 17 and Donte Dupriest contributed 12. In addition, starter Kyle Moore scored 13. The bench helped EAC stay in contention as well, as a pair of Gila Monsters combined for 33 points. Davion Bailey popped in 20 and Carl Blanton, Jr., added 13. Starter  Qualen Pettus helped out with 16 points.

But Central Arizona ruined Cochise's effort to grab first place alone with a 69-65 road win. In that one, Shakiel Bertrand led the way for Eastern with 17 points, and Brenton Woods, as well as Ryan Pate, scored 14 each. CC git 18 from Brian Rios, 15 more from Garcia and 11 from Patrick Samoura.
