Conference play ready to start with five still unbeaten

With conference play beginning Wednesday, five ACCAC men's basketball teams remain unbeaten.

Topping the list is Cochise, which has swept to a 6-0 record while averaging 127.5 points per game. During that stretch the Apaches have had five players averaging in double figures scoring, topped by last year's ACCAC/Region I Player of the Year Stephen Byard with a 19.8 mark. Last week CC defeated Northern New Mexico, 119-56; AZ Sol Post Grad, 129-82 and PHH Fire Post Grad, 124-80.

Sitting at 5-0 are both Glendale and Pima.

GCC swept to three wins last week. The Gauchos topped Bella Vista, 92-72; the Benedictine-Mesa JV, 104-64 and the Park JV, 131-40. During those three games Adam Hamilton averaged 23.7 points per game.

Pima has averaged 127.8 points per game over its first five contests. A week ago the Aztecs smashed the Ottawa JV, 144-64, scoring 78 points in the first half. PCC then beat Arizona Sol, 111-75.

Off to 4-0 starts are both Central Arizona and Chandler-Gilbert.

CAC won its only game a week ago over PHH Post Grad, 89-76, with Jamison Epps pouring in 32 points on 12-16 shooting from the floor.

Chandler-Gilbert won twice at the Phoenix Classic. The Coyotes first knocked off Community Christian, 95-50, and then stopped Dream City Christian, 72-56, with Asa Williams scoring 19.

  ACCAC play begins Wednesday.
