Arizona Western took over first place in ACCAC men's basketball with an 80-62 win at Cochise which had led the conference for most of the season.
The Matadors (18-3, 11-1) who have won nine straight, got a big game from Mojus Mojus who erupted for 30 points on 12-17 shooting, including 6-10 on three-pointers. Najeeb Muhammad added 16 and Yaxel Lendebord had 13. It was a big week for AZW which opened with a 69-68 win over Chandler-Gilbert with Lendeborg tossing in 20 in a double-double that included 11 rebounds. He hit two free throws with 4.8 seconds remaining for the win. Muhammed added 18 and Nate Duda 11. In between Western scored an 82-71 win at Central Arizona. Mojus had 20 in that one and Muhammaed 15,
Cochise (21-3, 12-2) stopped CAC in its first game of the week as Jonathan Garcia came off the bench to score 29 points, going 10-15 from the floor including 7-9 on threes. Jalen Trent had a 14-11 double-double and Oscar Cluff grabbed 16 rebounds.
It was a rough week for Central (15-7, 12-4) which also lost to Western.
After falling to Arizona Western, CGCC (16-7, 7-6) bounced back with two wins. The Coyotes first beat Scottsdale, 84-75, with Isaiah Somers leading the way with 22 points and Hayden Quinn contributing 17. Chandler-Gilbert then topped Mesa, 77-69, with Demetrius Valdez leading with 19 points and Kingdom Artis adding 15.
