Arizona Western takes battle of ranked teams over Yavapai, 3-2

  A match between the ACCAC's two nationally-ranked Division I men's soccer teams lived up to its billing as 16th-ranked Arizona Western edged 12th-ranked Yavapai, 3-2, Saturday in Prescott, AZ.

  The Matadors' Ridwane Boukraa scored an unassisted goal in the 80th minute to break a 2-2 tie and keep AZW perfect at 6-0 on the year. It was not, however, an ACCAC contest.

  Western scored first as Michele Signorelli found the net in the 19th minute. That was how things stood until YC's Jesse Maldonado tied things in the 67th minute. Less than two minutes later, however, a Matadors' cross deflected off the back of a YC defender for an own goal the gave AZ the lead. Less than one minute after that the Roughriders tied the contest again when Dauda Woodruff found the in the 70th minute.

  Phoenix won the season's first official ACCAC game with a 9-1 victory over GateWay. Raymundo Bonilla, Ernesto Osomio and Edwin Meza each scored twice for the Bears.

  Meanwhile, Pima remains unbeaten after two non-league wins. The Aztecs knocked off Chandler-Gilbert, 15-0, with Manuel Quiroz, Francisco Manzo, Emerson Ram and Cristian Gutierrez tallying twice each. The Aztecs then scored less than a minute after halftime and made that goal stand up, handing Scottsdale its first loss after two wins, 1-0. The goal was scored by Brian Vu and ran PCC's record to 5-0. Juan Suarez made two saves in the shutout.

  Paradise Valley suffered its first loss after three victories at the hands of Mesa, 4-0. The T-Birds scored all their goals, from four different players, in the second half. Isaiah Garay made five saves for MCC which picked up its first win of the season. Earlier in the week PVCC topped Glendale, 2-1, as Danny Robertson and David Case collected the goals. GCC's goal was scored by Victor Rodriguez.
