Phoenix, Glendale, sit atop men's soccer as conference play begins

After a little over a week of ACCAC men's soccer action, Phoenix and Glendale sit atop the conference with Paradise Valley and Yavpai close behind.

PC, now 2-0 in league play and 3-3 overall, won its first game of the week, 3-0 over Mesa, but then had its contest against Pima Saturday cancelled. In the MCC game, the Bears got goals from Edwin Mesa, Ernesto Osornio and Alexis Avila while Ricardo Arteaga made three saves while earning the shutout.

Glendale, 2-1 and 3-4 in all games, in league play, began the week with a 4-0 victory over Chandler-Gilbert, but then fell at Arizona Western 5-0.

Paradise Valley (1-0-2, 4-1-2) tied in its first two conference games before gaining a win over GateWay, 7-1. After a 3-3 tie with Scottsdale last week the Pumas played to a 2-2 draw with Yavapai. In that game PVCC scored twice in the second half with Preston Romeiro and Luis Angulo doing the honors. Chris Comn and Jesse Maldonado had the YC goals.

After the tie with PVCC, Yavapai (1-0-1, 5-3-1) topped Chandler-Gilbert, 9-0, as Maldonado, Dauda Woodruff and Michal Mojzis scored twice each.

Meanwhile, the ACCAC's two unbeaten teams, Arizona Western and Pima, have only been able to play one game each in league play.

For AZW (1-0, 9-0), the week began with an 11-0 non-conference win over GateWay in which ten different players scored. Ernie Garza led the way with two goals. Then, Nozomu Kamei scored twice as the Matadors defeated Glendale, 5-0.

Pima (1-0, 7-0) had its two games for the week, versus South Mountain and Phoenix, cancelled.
