Arizona Western and Pima both remain unbeaten and atop the ACCAC men's soccer standings. Each won twice last week and have identical 3-0 conference records. They won't meet head-t-head until the season's final regular season game Oct. 23 in Tucson.
AZW scored victories over Phoenix and Chandler-Gilbert to run its overall record to 11-0. The Matadors beat Pima 3-1 after seeing the Aztecs score quickly on a goal by Anthony Bailon in the first six minutes. Hanuki Nisimura evened the score seven minutes later and then Burak Cuban and Ridwane Boukraa added first half goals for the final margin. Western then beat Chandler-Gilbert, with Michael Appiah and Jesus Sanchez scoring twice each.
Pima extended its record to 9-0 with victories over Glendale and Mesa. PCC topped GCC 3-0 as Franco Manzo, Ulysses Torres and Manuel Quiroz provided the goals. Juan Suarez made four saves in goal. The Aztecs then held off MCC, 2-1, with all the goals scored in the first 14 minutes. Lewis Upton gave the Thunderbirds a quick lead, but Minho Cha and Sam Lossou quickly answered with neither team able to crack the goal in the remaining time.
Phoenix remains tied for first place with nine points. After falling to Arizona Western, the Bears scored three second half goals to top Paradise Valley, 4-1. Sergio Pacheco had two of the scores.
Glendale is next with six points having only played Pima last week.
Scottsdale and Paradise Valley are tied with five points apiece. SCC played only once last week, beating Chandler-Gilbert, 4-0. With four different players scoring. PVCC stopped GateWay, 7-1, prior to its loss to Phoenix. Enrique Arellano and Alex Huguez found the net twice each in the GWCC game.
