Seventh-seeded Arizona Western scored three goals in the second half and went on to a 3-0 victory over the No. 11-seed LSU-Eunice in the first game of pool play at the NJCAA Men's Soccer National Championship Tuesday.
After the scoreless first half the Matadors wasted little time in breaking the deadlock as Romaric Berneron scored barely one minute into the second half. It took until the 74:11 mark until Michael Appiah added a second goal and then, Nozomu Kamei scored the clincher not much more than a minute later.
Gianni Honsel was only forced to make one save in preserving the shutout as Western out-shot LSU-Eunice, 9-1.
AZW will now meet second-seeded Cowley Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. MST.
