The ACCAC softball season kicked off over the weekend with the conference producing a combined 20-4 record against some tough competition.
Two teams, Central Arizona and South Mountain, each began 5-0 playing in a major tournament.
CAC took down pre-season fourth-ranked Salt Lake, 11-4, among its five victories at the Southern Nevada Tournament. Ana Rodriguez collected four hits, including two home runs and a double, while driving in six runs. In the five games she had 11 hits, including four home runs, and drove in 13. Marina Acedo had three hits. The Vaqueras also defeated Southern Nevada, 8-6; Northeastern, 4-2; Trinidad St., 19-1, in five innings and Snow, 10-3. Nicole Ley went 14-19 in the five games.
SMCC also won its five at the same event. One game, against Salt Lake, has not been reported. The Cougars beat Southern Idaho, 9-6; Utah State-Eastern, 12-7; Colorado Northwestern, 9-7; Snow, 12-4, and Southern Nevada, 14-12. They were led by Jaudry Ah Quin who was 8-13 with two home runs and nine RBIs and Carolina Olivas who went 7-14.
Yavapai also played in the same event, going 4-1. The Roughriders topped Salt Lake, 9-8; Utah State-Eastern, 13-1, Colorado Northwestern, 15-0, and Snow, 14-6. YC fell to Southern Idaho, 8-3.
Eastern Arizona was at the same tournament, going 4-1. The Gila Monsters beat Snow, 18-7; Southern Idaho, 8-7; Northeastern, 10-2, and Utah State-Eastern, 6-1. EAC lost to Southern Nevada, 8-7. Cassidy Morrow went 6-10 with a pair of home runs and knocked in six.
