Actual ACCAC softball play got underway last week and three teams won their first four games, while another won two. Yavapai, Chandler-Gilbert and Glendale each went 4-0 and South Mountain 2-0.
Yavapai (12-2, 4-0) first beat Pima (0-4, 0-4) 20-0 (5) and 10-2 (6). In the opener the Roughriders crushed four home runs, by Yaya Kaaialli , Lovey Kepa'a , Jasmine Moreno and Alyssa Rosales and Mia Weckel collected four hits. In game two it was more of the same as Kepa'a, Moreno, Rosales and Ashley Fields all homered. YC then went on the road for the first time in conference play and topped Mesa (0-4, 0-4) 8-0 (5) and 13-0 (5). Game one saw Emily Dix hurl a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and Kayla Rodgers smash two homers and Kepa'a add another. The second game featured four more hits by Rodgers.
Chandler-Gilbert (5-1, 4-0) got off to a quick start with sweeps of Arizona Western (5-8, 0-4) and Paradise Valley (0-4, 0-4). Against AZW, in a 13-12 win in the first contest, Jaylei Brechler collected four hits and Camryn Quilling drove in five including hitting a home run. Kimberly Valenzuela paced the Matadors with three hits. The nightcap, a 15-5 (5) win for CGCC saw Brandee Ayala collect three hits and Quilling homer again. Against PVCC, Quilling hit a third home run in a 5-3 win in the opener. Valeria Rodriguez had three hits for the Pumas. In the second game it was Briana Jackson with the long-ball for the Coyotes with Brechler getting three hits. Andi Elliott had three hits for PVCC.
Glendale (5-1, 4-0) also got off to a 4-0 start, beating Paradise Valley and Scottsdale (0-2,0-2) twice each. In the PVCC opener, a 9-7 win, Celina Morales had four hits and Alana Van Dorn homered. In game two, a 12-4 (5) win, Morales homered again and Vam Dorn picked up four more hits. The Gauchos then swept SCC 7-0 and 16-1 (5).
South Mountain (9-3, 2-0) had only one twin-bill scheduled. It took down Mesa, 9-1 (5) and 20-5 (5). The first game saw the Cougars get two home runs from Audrey Ah Quin and one from Analise Chavez. Rylie Atherton pitched a one-hitter. In the second contest Tara Lorona homered. Kylie Williams hit one out for MCC.
