Yavapai rolling over opponents in softball

  Yavapai (20-1, 12-0) continued its explosive ways with two five-inning doubleheader sweeps last week. The Roughriders are now averaging over 14 runs per game and have finished their last ten in a row in five innings.

  The week began with a sweep of Chandler-Gilbert (9-5, 8-4). In the opener, a 22-2 YC win, Yaya Kaaialli and Alyssa Rosalez each had four hits with two home runs apiece. Cheyenne Sandoval and Jasmine Moreno also homered. Melia Hecht hit a home run, among her two hits for CGCC. Camryn Quilling also had two hits. In the second game, a 12-0 win, Kaaialli and Moreno hit home runs with Kaaialli and Kayla Rogers registering three hits each. Emily Darwin and Abby Cruz combined on a no-hitter. The Roughriders then turned their attention to South Mountain (10-10, 3-7), taking the first game 14-1 (5). In that one, Rodgers, Moreno and Ashley Fields all hit home runs. Then YC took a 15-0 (5) victory as Makena Riggs hit two home runs and drove in seven. Lovey Kepa'a also hit one deep.

  Eastern Arizona (11-3, 9-1) is trying to keep pace and won four times last week. EAC first took two from Pima (4-6, 4-6). The first game was a 12-7 Gila Monster win. Solymar Navarro collected four hits and five RBIs, with two of the hits home runs. Sherilyn Molina homered for AZW. Then Eastern won 15-0 (5) as Gabby Romero led with three hits including a homer and three RBIs. Lauren Salcido hurled a two-hitter. Eastern the took two from Chandler-Gilbert. In the 16-0 (5) opener, Cassidy Morrow and Nohealani Akana both hit safely three times and drove in two. The second game was a wild one with the Gila Monsters winning 13-11. In that one Akana had four hits with Camryn Quilling collecting three hits including two home runs for CGCC.

  Central Arizona (16-1, 7-1) has won five straight. The first game of the week was a 15-7 (5) slugfest over South Mountain. Nicole Ley led the way with three hits and Bella Garcia hit two home runs. Kaylaina Sublan had three hits including a home run and drove in four for SMCC. Game two, an 8-1 CAC win was highlighted by Emily Churchill and Brooke Williams home runs. Central then took two from Mesa (0-12, 0-12). The opener was a 15-1 (5) win as Ley and Garcia each had three hits, including home runs, and Marina Acedo added three hits of her own. In game two, an 8-0 (6) win, Ana Rodriguez and Jessica Mercado each collected three hits with Rodriguez tossing a three-hit shutout.
