Yavapai continues run in ACCAC softball

  Yavapai continued its run in ACCAC softball with two more doubleheader sweeps and holds a three-game lead over its three closest challengers.

  YC (29-2, 21-1) took down Central Arizona (26-3, 17-3) as well as Eastern Arizona (25-5, 17-3) twice each. In the CAC pair, the Roughriders won, 9-7 and 5-2. The first game saw Yavapai's Kayla Rodgers and Yaya Kaaialli pick up two hits each while Central got home runs from Ana Rodriguez, Bella Garcia and Emily Churchill. In game two, Ashley Fields collected four hits, including a home run and three RBIs. Nicole Ley had two hits for CAC. Yavapai then went on to take two from EAC, 9-1 and 11-3 (6).

  After falling to Yavapai, Central shutout Arizona Western (9-20, 4-16) 11-0 (5) and 8-0 (5). In the first contest, Ley, Garcia and Kyra Vieux all had two hits. In game two, Marina Acedo hit safely three times, knocking in two, while Churchill homered.

  Phoenix (23-3, 17-3) is part of the three-way tie for second place and has won ten in a row. The Bears beat both Chandler-Gilbert and then McCook in non-conference action. In the first game with CGCC (12-12, 11-11), a 10-0 (5) final, Brianna Hardy pitched a one-hit shoutout and Phoenix scored six in the fifth to end it. Ali Ashner, Jenna Huey, Bella Angelo and Sierra Meyers all hit home runs. In game two, which PC won 11-2 (6), Regan Dobson collected three hits. The Bears then beat visiting McCook, 9-1 (5) and 8-3.

  Prior to the Yavapai doubleheader, EAC beat Glendale, (9-15, 7-13) twice. In the first contest, which Eastern won, 19-6, Solymar Navarro led a 20-hit attack with four, including a home run. Savannah Clausen hit two out and Gabby Romero added another. Alyssie Blythe homered for GCC. In game two, an 11-1 (5) Gila Monsters win, Romero collected four hits, four RBIs and another home run. Savannah Howard had two hits for GCC.
