Long winning streaks highlight ACCAC softball

  Long winning streaks highlight ACCAC softball currently.

  Yavapai and Phoenix, two of the top-ranked teams in the nation, are on streaks of 11 and 14 games respectively and are the top two teams in the league standings.

  YC (31-2, 23-1) is No. 2 in NJCAA Division I, and PC (27-3, 21-3) is second in DII. Those rankings were at the beginning of last week.

  The Roughriders only played twice last week, sweeping Pima (9-15, 9-15) on the road, 18-12 and 17-0 (5). In the opener, Alyssa Rosales pounded out four hits, including three home runs and had four RBIs. Kelli Samorano had four hits, including a homer and drove in three for Pima. In the second contest it was Yaya Kaaialli who put on the biggest show with four hits and five RBIs.

  The Bears kept their streak alive with two wins apiece over Paradise Valley (1-23, 1-23) and Eastern Arizona (26-8, 18-6). In the PVCC sweep, 6-1 and 15-0 (5), Ali Ashner had three RBIs as PVCC pitching limited Phoenix to just five hits, but issued seven walks. Andi Elliott had two hits for the Pumas. In game two, Teagen Dobson homered and drove in five for PC. Ashner also contributed a home run.

  In a tight doubleheader sweep of EAC, 3-1 and 5-4, Jenna Huey homered and drove in four in the first game. Brianna Hardy struck out 12 in the circle. Game two saw the Bears take the lead in the bottom of the sixth and Aubrey Chavez collected two hits, including a home run and three RBIs.
