Yavapai has a small lead over Phoenix as the ACCAC softball season heads into its final three weeks of the regular season.
YC (37-2, 29-2) has a 17-game winning streak working, but had two games against Arizona Western postponed. In the two the Roughriders did play, they took a doubleheader from Chandler-Gilbert, 11-3 (6) and 9-0 (5). In game one, Lovey Kepa'a hit two home runs and Kayla Rodgers added another. In the nightcap, Mia Weckel homered and had two hits.
Meanwhile, Phoenix (38-4, 24-4) saw its 19-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of Central Arizona (32-5, 23-5). The loss came in the second game of the twin-bill, 12-3. For CAC, Sabina Garcia had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs, while Teagen Dobson homered for PC. In the opening contest, a 10-4 win for PC, Ali Ashner and Kamryn Moctezuma each homered. Nicol Ley , Ana Rodriguez , Emily Churchill each hit one out for CAC.
The Bears got back on track with two wins at Glendale, 14-3 (5) and 7-1. The opener saw Dobson and Jenna Huey both hit home runs with Aubrey Chavez and Moctezuma collecting three hits each, In game two, Ashner had three hits and Huey homered again.
After the two with PC, the Varqueras swept a pair from South Mountain (26-17, 16-14). Rodriguez and Churchill each hit home runs again while Kate Hogan had two hits for SMCC in an 11-3 (5) CAC win. The second contest also went to CAC, 12-11, with Central scoring five in the bottom of the seventh with Bella Garcia hitting a walk-off home run. Nicol Ley had three hits and three RBIs including a home run. For the Cougars, Maria Martinez hit two out among her three hits and Hogan homered helping her produce four RBIs.
