In a match-up of the top two teams in ACCAC softball, Yavapai took down second place Phoenix twice Saturday.
The Roughriders (41-2, 33-1) won 8-0 (6) and 12-8 and in the process dropped the Bears (36-6, 30-6) into third place behind Central Arizona (36-5, 27-5) by percentage points.
In the opener against PC, Emily Dix pitched her second no-hitter of the season striking out 14 in the process. Kayla Rodgers highlighted the offense with a huge day, going 4-4 with three home runs and six RBIs. Game two saw Phoenix jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first, but Yavapai answered with seven in its half on the frame. Yaya Kaaiali paced the offense with three hits.
Earlier in the week the Roughriders took two from South Mountain (27-19, 18-16). Both games went just five innings with YC winning, 14-3, 16-4. In game one, Alyssa Rosales led the way with two homers while Mia Weckel had three hits, one of which was a home run, and added four RBIs. Taylor Mount had two hits for SMCC and Tara Lorona hit one out. In the second game, five different Roughriders hit home runs and Lovey Kepa'a had three hits.
Meanwhile, CAC ran its winning streak to seven to take over second place. First, CAC tripped Mesa (8-28, 8-28) twice. In the opener the Vaqueras escaped with a 6-5 victory as Ana Rodriguez collected three hits. Kylie Wilhelms had three for MCC. The second game was a five-inning no-hitter for Rodriguez. CAC then stopped Chandler-Gilbert (17-21, 16-20) twice, 4-3 and 19-1 (5). In game one, Sabrina Garcia had a home run and three RBIs. In the second contest Garcia had three hits and drove in five.
