Phoenix to play for NJCAA DII softball title after win Saturday

Second-seeded Phoenix will play for the NJCAA Division II Softball National Championship Sunday after a thrilling, 2-1, victory over No. 4-seed Murray State Saturday.

The Bears will face an opponent to be determined at noon Arizona time but would have to be beaten twice to not take home the title.

All of the scoring in the win over Murray State took place in the fourth inning. MSC had scored in the top of the inning, but Aubrey Chavez singled with one out in the PC half of the frame and scored on a home run by winning pitcher Brianna Hardy. She struck out 12 in gaining the win to run her season's record to 42-1.

Phoenix is now 51-6 for the year.
