Eastern Arizona expands women's basketball lead

  Eastern Arizona defetaed Cochise, 69-63, to expand its ACCAC women's basketball lead.

  The Gils Monsters were led by Cataline Ferriera with 20 pointsIssis Smith added 14 as EAC ran its overall record to 7-1 with a 5-1 conference mark. Eastern used a bif fourth quarter to gain the victory, outscoring the Apaches, 22-13, to win the road game. 

  Central Arizona won just the second game it has been able to play, beating Arizona Western, 60-50. Denali Hughes led CAC with 19 points and Shalyse Smith added 16.  Buse Utku paced AZW with 13.

  The Matadors did defeat Cochise, 53=42. Despite trailing by ten points at halftime, the Matadors got ten of Teresa DaSilv's game-high 13 points in the second half to even their conference record at 3-3. Miza Gilberto had 11 rebounds for AZW.

  In the only other women's basketball action of the week, Eastern Arizona swept a pair of easy wins over Community Christian. In the first of the two, a 97-51 win, Nadira Eltayeb came off the bench to lead the way with 14 points. Four other players scored in double figures. Kor Fornesa had 12, Isis Smith and Catarina Ferriera scored 111 each and Nay John added 11. In a 101-41 win a day later, Ferriera led a parade of seven in double figures with 16 points.
