Top-seeded Eastern Arizona and No. 3-seed Arizona Western have advanced to the women's basketball Region I championship games with semi-final victories Tuesday night.
EAC was an easy winner over Cochise, 87-43, while AZW edged Central Arizona, 65-64, to earn their way into Friday's championship game which will be played in Thatcher, AZ, at 7:00 p.m.
Western got a three-pointer from Mizah Gilberto that put the Matadors on top for the first time since midway through the third quarter. Faith Silva led the way with 18 points.Gilberto added 15 and Teresa DaSilver scored 11.
The Gila Monsters were led by Ajae Yoakum who made 10 of 14 shots while scoring 23. Mary Workman added 12 and Peyton Slaga scored 11.
EAC shot 36-71 (.507) from the field.
