Eastern Arizona women fall on late shot at NJCAA nationals

Eastern Arizona gave it a great run, but eventually fell to third-seeded Chipola (Fla.) in the second round of the NJCAA Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament, 71-68.

The Gila Monsters, who were the 19th seed, actually took the lead with 26 seconds to play, 68-67, on a put-back by Catarina Ferreira. Chipola's De'myla Brown made one of two free throws with 15 seconds remaining to tie the game at 68, but after an EAC turnover, Shimei Muhammad hit a three-pointer with four seconds left for the win.

Ferreira had a huge game for Eastern with 30 points. Susi Namoa had 21.

The Monsters conclude their season with a 17-3 record. Chipola, ranked seventh in the nation, is 19-4.
