The race in ACCAC women's basketball is heating up, although it will now take a break.
For the most part conference games will be on hiatus until Wednesday, Jan. 5, although there will be a couple of rescheduled contests and a whole lot of non-conference action.
For now though, the same two teams, Central Arizona and Scottsdale, continue to top the standings and both remain unbeaten both in league play, and overall.
CAC (10-0, 5-0) won twice last week to remain on top. First, the Vaqueras edged Mesa (5-4, 3-3), 52-49, as Seairra Hughes led the way with a 14-11 double-double. Shalyse Smith added ten off the bench. Then Central went on the road and scored an 88-48 at Phoenix (4-8, 1-5). This time Hughes led the way with 19 points while Mya India Thomas added 15 and Senya Rabouin 14.
Meanwhile, Scottsdale (7-0, 2-0) still has not lost, although the Artichokes have not played since Nov. 23 and won't again until Dec. 21 when they will host Eastern Arizona in a re-scheduled game.
Pima (10-2, 5-1) had its game with South Mountain postponed, but also topped Mesa, 70-64. In that one, Angel Addleman paced the offense with 20 points while Luisa Chavez added 13 and Torrance Begay 11. MCC got 22 points off the bench from Jasmine Belt.
Arizona Western (11-1, 4-1) won its only game of the week, beating Glendale (3-10, 1-5), 87-47, as Alliance Ndiba hit 13 of 16 in a reserve role to score 27 points. Teresa Da Silva and Christeina Bryan added 15 each. GCC got ten each from Clarissa Lopez and Kylie Krebs.
