AZ Western cements hold in women's basketball, faces daunting schedule

  Arizona Western cemented its lead in ACCAC women's basketball by stretching its winning streak to 15, but faces the daunting task of playing three games each week for the next three weeks due to COVID-10 postponements.

  The Matadors (19-1, 8-1) scored two big wins last week, with road victories at Central Arizona and Cochise. First up was CAC which AZW took down, 85-82. Teresa Da Silva led the way with 21 points and Alliance Ndiba added a 14-13 double-double. CAC got 22 from Senya Rabouin and 17 from Mya India Thomas. Western then visited Cochise and came away with a 70-62 win. In that one, Ndiba popped in 26.

  Central (16-4, 9-2) is trying to keep pace and scored two wins last week. First, CAC beat Cochise, 97-76, as Seairra Hughes scored 24 and Thomas added 16. Corina Suarez Tudela led the Apaches with 26. The Vaqueras than topped South Mountain, 78-40, with Thomas scoring 22 and Hughes recording a 12-10 double-double.

  Also trying to keep pace is Eastern Arizona (21-3, 11-3) which won twice last week. First, the Gila Monsters smothered Glendale, 82-37, as Sydney Wright came off the bench to score 17. Then EAC beat Phoenix, 82-58, This time Susi Namoa, Ajae Yoakum and Catarina Ferreira all scored 14. Yoakum added 14 rebounds and Ferreira 12.
