Down to the wire in women's basketball races

The races for the top seeds in ACCAC women's basketball may well come down to the schedules that each team has to play over the final week, and one day, of the season.

In Division I, Arizona Western (25-1, 15-1) has won 21 straight, but will have to play one extra makeup game than challenger Central Arizona (21-5, 14-3). In DII, Pima (19-7, 12-5) and Mesa (15-7, 10-5) have both lost the same number of conference games, five. But MCC faces the daunting task of playing five games in an eighth-day stretch, one of which includes a visit to PCC Friday in a makeup in Tucson.

AZW ran its streak to 24 with wins over Glendale (4-22, 2-14) 64-43 the Matadors got 19 points off the bench from Amy Hosking. Then, as Western beat PC, 83-48, Faith Silva scored 20 and Hosking added 19 more in a reserve role. Valiya Yazzie had 16 off the bench for PC.

CAC won three times as it tries to keep pace. First, the Vaqueras beat Chandler-Gilbert, 90-58, with Senya Rabouin leading with 19. Then they topped Phoenix (7-18, 2-13), 107-68, as Rabouin tossed in 28 more and Seairra Hughes had an 18-14 double-double. PC was led by Jana Berry and Leslie Aguirre with 15 each. Finally, Central stopped Glendale (4-22, 2-14) 79-41. This time Mya India Thomas scored 18 off the bench.

Pima had only one game scheduled and it beat Scottsdale (11-11, 5-9) on the road 71-66 in overtime. Matehya Aberle led with 18 bench points and Angela Addlman added 17.

MCC, also, played just one but got a big win over Eastern Arizona (24-4, 14-4) 69-66 in OT. Taylor Tiulana came off the bench to score 15 and Rylee Young had the same amount. Susi Namoa scored 19 for EAC.
