Top-seeded Mesa defeated second-seeded Pima, 66-58, to win the Region I, DII, women's basketball championship Saturday night in Mesa.
MCC overcame a 13-point deficit to win the title which has become almost the exclusive property of these two teams which have now met in the regional final 11 of the past 12 times. Mesa leads that hard-fought series, 6-5.
Jayla Johnson paced the T-Birds with 23 points while Mika Taliman added 13 and Mykah Anderson 11.
Luisayde Chavez poured in 20 for the Aztecs.
