Paradise Valley and Arizona Western have advanced to the semi-final round of the NJCAA Region I women's soccer playoffs with wins Tuesday.

  Third-seeded Paradise Valley used a goal early in the second half and held off fifth-seeded Phoenix to advance to the regional semi-finals. Justine Cardwell converted a pass from Diana Sanchez in the 53^rd minute and Bridgett Birss made three saves in preserving the shutout.

  Arizona Western also advanced with a 1-0 victory over Pima. Tyra McKenzie scored the game's lone goal from about 45 yards out in the 77^th minute.

  PVCC will now visit #2 seed Chandler-Gilbert Thursday in a 6 p.m. start. AZW travels to top-seeded Cochise the same day for a 2 p.m. contest.
