Pima had to go to a penalty kick shootout and unbeaten Phoenix advanced in regulation time as the Region I, DII women's playoffs completed the semi-final round Wednesday.
The third-seeded Aztecs defeated Scottsdale, 4-3, on penalty kicks. In the seven-player shootout, Seti Valencia broke a 2-2 tie for PCC after five players had shot for both teams. Goalkeeper Angelina Amparano then stopped the next shot. When Lyticia Espinosa connected on the ensuing kick, Pima had the win.
Meanwhile, Phoenix ran its record to 9-0 with a 7-0 win over Glendale. Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta scored three times for the Bears and Kiana Miyazato added two scores. Goalkeeper Jennifer Alvillar had to make just one save in getting the shutout.
Pima and Phoenix will meet Saturday in Phoenix fat 6 p.m. or the region's automatic bid to the NJCAA Division II national championship.
