Late Phoenix goal sends game into OT and Bears prevail in NJCAA DII women's soccer

Kiana Miyazato scored with 46 seconds remaining in regulation play to send the game into overtime and then Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta netted the game-winner in the 101st minute to lift top-seeded Phoenix into the semi-finals of the NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Sunday with a 3-2 win over No. 8-seed Waubonsee.

The Bears will meet second-seeded Holmes on Tuesday at 6 a.m. Arizona time Tuesday in the national semis.

In a back-and-forth contest, the Chiefs scored first on a penalty kick in the 17th minute only to see Zalma Torres knot the contest at 1-1 with an assist from Daizy Arrendondo in the 30th minute.

That is where things stood until WC regained the lead in the 52nd minute, 2-1.

Then, Miyazato delivered her heroics with less than a minute remaining to send the game into overtime.

In the 11th minute of OT, Valenzuela-Acosta banged home a goal from about 16 yards out on the right side to end the contest.

PC out-shot Waubsonsee 14-8 in shots on goal.
