A pair of former ACCAC Standouts, Esthefanny Barreras and Greta Espinoza, helped the Mexico national team to a 6-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in a CONCACAF Qualifier match on Monday evening at Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca, Mexico.
Barreras, who played at Phoenix, recorded a clean sheet in goal while Espinoza, who played at Arizona Western, scored a goal in Mexico's 6-0 win. The match was Berreras' second appearance with Mexico's senior team after making her debut in a 2-1 win over Puerto Rico on September 22. Espinoza made her 30th appearance for the senior team, scoring her fourth career goal in the win.
While at Phoenix, Barreras played in 20 games in her lone season with the Bears, allowing just 16 goals and recording 81 saves to help lead the Bears to the NJCAA Women's Soccer Championship, recording a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Lewis & Clark in pool play. Following her time at Phoenix, Barreras played two seasons at West Florida before embarking on her professional career with Pachuca.
Espinoza played two seasons at Arizona Western, scoring eight goals in 16 games for the Lady Matadors. All eight goals came in her sophomore season to help the Lady Matadors to an 11-win season. As a sophomore, Espinoza tallied a pair of two-goal games and scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over GateWay. Following her two seasons at Arizona Western, Espinoza went on to star at Oregon State University and then began her professional career with Tigres UANL.
Mexico plays Trinidad and Tobago again on October 27 before playing Puerto Rico on October 31 in the third and fourth matches of Gold Cup Qualification.
