The 2021 ACCAC volleyball season opened last weekend with four teams competing in tournament play at the New Mexico Military Institute Bronco Classic.
Yavapai emerged with a 2-2 split, dropping two matches Friday but bouncing back for two wins Saturday.
The Roughriders, the defending ACCAC Division I champions, fell to Snow, 3-0, and host NMMI, 3-1, before rebounding for wins over Navarro, 3-2, and Vernon, 3-0.
Eastern Arizona, Pima and South Mountain all began the season 1-3.
EAC fell to Navarro, 3-0, and Tyler, 3-2, Friday. The Gila Monsters got their first win of the season against Vernon, 3-1, before dropping a 3-2 decision to NMMI.
Pima split two Friday matches, falling to Snow, 3-0, before beating Vernon, 3-2. On Saturday the Aztecs lost to Seward County, 3-1, and Salt Lake, 3-2.
South Mountain won its first match Friday, topping Vernon, 3-1. It then dropped 3-0 decisions to Navarro, Tyler and Salt Lake.
Another round of non-conference action takes place for the next two weeks before actual ACCAC play commences after Labor Day.
