With the ACCAC season ready to go into full swing next week, two teams have begun to separate themselves from the pack a bit.
Glendale and Scottsdale have both gotten off to fast starts, both in non-league play and in the conference. Only a total of five ACCAC matches have been played so far, but those two have four of the wins, two apiece.
Glendale defeated Phoenix and Mesa last week and then added a non-league victory over Mott (Mich.) Saturday.
The Gauchos, now 6-0 and 2-0 in ACCAC play, first stopped PC, with four players producing double-figure kill matches. Hanna Granger had 14 to go along with 13 digs, Gracie Newbern and Neeley Eves had 12 each and Jayda Chee added 11 with 15 digs. The Bears were paced by Jessica Vargas with 15 and 12 digs as well as Tionna Hood with 13. Granger then added 15 Kills and digs in a 3-0 victory over Mesa while Carolyna Montez contributed 18 digs. Finally, Eves drilled 13 kills in the triumph over Mott.
Meanwhile, Scottsdale (5-1, 2-0) picked up three wins of its own. In a 3-1 win over Barton (Kan.) Brooklyn Casey nabbed 30 digs and added 16 kills. Taylor Williams also had 16 kills. Casey then added 14 kills and 15 digs in a 3-0 win over Mesa. Finally, Kylie Ostrovsky chipped in with 21 digs. Finally, SCC also knocked off Mott, 3-0, with Ostrovsky having 21 more digs and Casey another 19.
