Scottsdale falls in opening round of NJCAA DII volleyball championship

  In a heart-breaking match for Scottsdale, the Artichokes fell in the opening round of the NJCAA DII Volleyball National Championship in a five-set match to Heartland (Ill.) Thursday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

  Not only did the match last the full five sets, but the fifth went into extra points before HCC (31-6) prevailed, 17-15. The full match scores were, listing SCC first, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 15-17.

  For seventh-seeded Scottsdale (19-8), Brooklyn Casey led with 13 kills, followed by Savannah Davis with 12 and Kamilah Anderson with 11. Casey added 24 digs while Shauna Rath had 21 and Kylie Ostrovsky 19. Rath also added 30 assists with Macy Wilke contributing 16.

  The Artichokes will drop to the consolation bracket where they will face Mott Co., Friday at 9 a.m. MST.
